Mr. Francis John Gyorek, age 82, of Tamaqua since 1998, and formerly of
Bethlehem, Pa., died Tuesday, July 1, 2008, at Hometown Nursing &
Rehabilitation Ctr. in Tamaqua, Pa.
Francis retired in 1991, as a Captain of the Bethlehem Police Dept.
after serving 37
1/2 years. He started as a Patrolman, and then earned the rank of Sgt.,
then Detective eventually rising to become Captain. Francis was
instrumental in the installation and upgrading of the Communication
System
to enhance "E" which was the first system of it's kind in the Bethlehem
area.
Francis was a member of the Bethlehem Fire Department and he served with
honor in the United States Army and U.S. Navy during WWII. While in the
Navy he was stationed in the South Pacific, and during his tenure in the
Army he was assigned to the National Security Agency.
A graduate of Liberty High School of Bethlehem, Pa., he was a member of
the
SS. Peter & Paul R.C.C. of Tamaqua, Pa., Francis also belonged to the
V.F.W. of Tamaqua,and the Faternal Order of Police Lodge #20 Bethlehem,
Pa.
Born in Bethlehem, he was the son of the late George and Mary (Freeman) Gyorek.
He is also survived by his

Richard "Skip" Frey and his wife Anne of Drums, Pa.
Jack Frey and his wife Karen of Nazareth, Pa.
One Daughter,
Jill Frey of Charleston, S.C.
One Brother,
William Gyorek and his wife Vyella of Chelsa, Ala.
Four grandchildren Kristen Frey, Lauren Frey, Shawn Frey and his wife
Phoenix, and Michael Frey,
two great-grandchildren, Carrington & Liam
Friend, Mrs. Florina Martin of Tamaqua, Pa.
Former daughter-in-law, Roe Frey of Blakeslee, Pa
Preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Joan (Frey) Gyorek in 1996,;
brothers,
Joe, John, and George Gyorek; sisters, Mrs. Margaret Parker, Mrs. Helen
Kazor, Mrs. Mary Marx, and Christina.

Inc.,

The family will receive friends from 9:00 AM to 10:00 A.M. Thursday,

3, 2008 in church.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at SS. Peter & Paul R.C.C. 307 Pine
Street, Tamaqua at 10 o'clock A.M. Thursday, July 3, 2008, Rev.
William Linkchorst
officiating.
Entombment will be at Grandview Cemetery in Allentown, Pa.
