Flossie E.

Flossie E ( Boyer) Hoppes, age 79, formerly of Mantzville Road, Tamaqua, passed away Sunday, November 9, 2014 in West Chester, Pennsylvania.

She was married to Ernie E. Hoppes for 51 years until his death in 2005.

Born in Tamaqua, the daughter of the late Irvin and Bertha (Herron) Boyer.

Flossie was a life long member of the St. Peter's Church, Mantzville.. She would proudly inform you that her children were all baptized at St. Peter's Church. She was also a member of the Eastern Star 203 of Lehighton, PA.

Flossie was a "surrogate mother" to all the Tamaqua Elementary School students during her 42 years as the school secretary. Her desk sat in the lobby and she was the first person to greet students, teachers, parents and visitors to the school each day. Flossie loved her years at the school, but she also enjoyed camping, basket weaving, ceramics and walking in the great outdoors.

Flossie is survived by;

One son:
Dennis L. Hoppes and his wife, Linda, Barnesville, PA.

Daughters: Diane L., wife of Kerry Pruett, Tamaqua and Carol Ann, wife of Mark Gelder, Phoenixville, PA ;

Brother Lewis Boyer of Tamaqua;

Four grandchildren:
Jay & Andrew Peters, Heather and Dustin Hoppes; Step grandson: John Gelder.

Three great grandchildren: Logan, Crowyn & Chatyon.

She was predeceased by sisters: Gladys "Sissy" McDonald & Helen "Nan" Marks and brothers William & Leroy Boyer.

The family requests that memorials in Flossie's name be sent to the Hillside SPCA, Hillside Road, Pottsville, PA 17901.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Robert S.. Nester Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 2066 West Penn Pike, New Ringgold, PA.

Please call on Thursday, Nov 13, 2014 from 9:30 to 11:00 AM at St. Peter's Church, 184 St. Peter's Church Road, Tamaqua, Pennsylvania, with a service to celebrate Flossie's life at 11:00 AM.

Interment will be at St. Peter's Church Cemetery.
