Eugene E. “Gene” Kunkel, 84 years of age of Weatherly, passed away on Friday, February 20 2015 at Lehigh Valley Hospital Hazleton Campus.
Gene had an easy going attitude and was kind and good natured.
Widower of Margaret “Marge” (Zelenak)) Kunkel, who passed away on November 11, 2001.
A 1948 Weatherly High School graduate, Gene honorably served in the United States Navy during the Korean War on the USS Braine. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Weatherly.
Returning home, Gene worked for the Weatherly Power & Light Department, until taking a position with PPL in 1966 as a Lineman working until 1992. After retiring,Gene drove van for Weatherwood.
Gene was an honorary member of the Citizens Fire Company #1 of Weatherly, and Lifetime member of the American Legion Post #360 of Weatherly.
Gene enjoyed working around his home and in the yard, walking, and vacationing.
Born in Hazleton, the son of the late Elmer and Molly (Garner) Kunkel.
He is survived by,

Debbie Kunkel and her companion Donny Weston of Weatherly
Son,
Jerry E. Kunkel and his wife Kathy of Weatherly;
Brothers,
William “Sandy” Kunkel of Kittery, Maine, Walter Kunkel and his wife Rebecca of Hazleton;
Two grandchildren who affectionately referred to him as Grand - pop, Jen O’Donnell and her husband Brian, and Abby Weston.
Preceded in death by his daughter, Donna Bann in 2003; Infant Son; brother, John Kunkel.
Several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive him.
Arrangements entrusted to the Philip J. Jeffries Funeral Home & Cremation Service 211 First Street Weatherly, Pennsylvania.
Funeral service will be held from the funeral home on Wednesday February 25, 2015 at 11 o’clock A.M, Rev. Dawn Richie to officiate.
A Gathering of Friends shall take place from 9:30 A.M. until time of service at the funeral home.
Interment with Military Honors, Union Cemetery, Weatherly, Pennsylvania.
