Ethel I. Rother

Ethel I. Rother, beloved mother, sister, cherished Nana, 86 years of age, of Orwigsburg Street Tamaqua, Pennsylvania passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 28, 2019, at home while in the care of her family. Born Saturday, August 12, 1933 in Owl Creek sect. of Tamaqua, she was the daughter of the late Ralph E., and Mary (Rex) Faust.  She was also predeceased by; husband, Rudolph R. Rother on March 28, 1990; daughter, Karen Mateyak in 2012; sisters, Ellen Wagner, Ruth DeLay, Mary Faust; brother, Harvin Faust. Surviving are son, Joseph R. Rother and his wife Dorothy of Tamaqua; daughters, Mary Machay wife of Dave of Tamaqua, Theresa Houser wife of David of Tamaqua, Louise Schickram wife of Wayne of Tamaqua; son-in-law, John Mateyak of Lititz;  brothers, James Faust and Thomas Faust, sisters, Kitty Ann Buss, Dorothy Audenried and Glenna Kozuch; 12 grand children; 25 great grand children; two step grandchildren; 4 step great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. A 1951 graduate of Tamaqua Area High School, Ethel retired from the former Purling Mills after 26 years. In retirement, Ethel helped cook at the Elks Club and Schick's in Tamaqua.  She was a member of St. John XXIII R.C.C., and  South Ward Fire Co. Aux of Tamaqua. Ethel was a longtime volunteer at the Lutheran Home in Hazleton and was a member of the C.W.E.A. while her children were in school. Ethel cherished the role of homemaker.  She was a terrific cook and talented sewer.  Ethel like to read and spend time with her children and extended family.  She will be missed by many. (570) 668-2550 A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday January 3, 2020 at noon from St. John XXIII R.C.C.  located at 301 Pine Street Tamaqua, Pennsylvania 18252. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM on Friday at the funeral home. Interment will be in St. Jerome's R.C.C. Cemetery Tamaqua, Pennsylvania.
