Ermano Ottavio “Herman” Agosti, former owner of Agosti’s Food Stores. Located inTamaqua, Mahanoy City and Weatherly passed away unexpectedly on ThursdaySeptember 28, 2018 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Bethlehem at the age of 86. Herman resided in Lake Hauto, Nesquehoning with his beloved wife of sixty-oneyears, Diane M. (Bevan) Agosti. He is also survived by daughter, Patricia MarieConfer wife of Gregory J. “Fred” of Tamaqua; sons Joseph E. Agosti and his partnerCatherine Melfi of Millsboro, DE., James C. Agosti and his wife Tracy of Tamaqua,Steven M. Agosti and his wife Colleen of Tuscarora, Robert J. Agosti and his wifeLinda of Lake Hauto; grandchildren; Adam, Dominick, Olivia, Abbigale, Tavio, Ava,Steven, David, Anthony, Nico, Gianna, Dante, Gregory, Salina, Kassandra her husbandJoe Kayes and his son Korbyn; sister, Julia Kubich of Minersville; many nieces andnephews and friends. Born in Brooklyn the son of the late Ottavio Agosti and Rita (Preti) Agosti animmigrant mother in labor while crossing the Atlantic, Herman’s work ethic wasinnate. A graduate of Minersville High School class of 1949 he began working for theA&P Grocery Chain at the age of seventeen and worked there for twenty-four yearsbecoming the manager of a number of local stores, settling in Tamaqua. Hermanpaused his career to serve honorably in the United States Army during the KoreanWar. He and his brother-in-law opened the Hometown IGA in 1971. A member of St. John XXIII R.C.C. of Tamaqua, Herman was a member of the FatherHenry Baker Knights of Columbus lodge #2711 Tamaqua, and a 4th degree Knight.He belonged to the Tamaqua Lions Club, East End Fire Company, East EndPlayground association, Lake Hauto Club, was a Past President of the Men of Marian,participated in the Mt. Valley Sr. Golf League, was a proud member of the BurgerKing Breakfast Club, and played pinochle throughout the area. Herman was amember of the Schuylkill Valley Joint Veterans, Catholic War Veterans of NewPhiladelphia, The American Legion post no. 0173 and most proudly a member of theTyrolean Club of Hazleton. He served on the former Miners Bank Board of DirectorsTamaqua Branch, and on the Rush Twp. Zoning Board. A sports enthusiast, he was an ardent New York Yankees fan and proud supporter of his children and grandchildren’s athletic endeavors. Herman was predeceased by his sister, Alice Kupchinsky.
