Elsie D. Rita, 102 years of age of Mauch Chunk Street, Tamaqua, Pennsylvania passed away, at Blue Mountain Health Systems in Lehighton, Pennsylvania.
Widow of Victor J. Rita to whom she shared sixty-four years, Elsie is survived by; her daughter, Rita M. Repinec of Tamaqua; brother, Tony DiMarco of Florida; sister, Julie Anthony of Georgia; six grandchildren, Stephanie and her husband Frank McCarroll, Gina Guilkey and her husband Richard, joseph Rita nad his wife Elena, Patti Weeks, Joan Wyatt and her husband John, and Louis Rita; eight great grandchildren, Christine and Sean McCarroll, Kristina Weeks, Stacey Watt, Richard, and Rachel Guilkey; Great great grandson Joseph II; many nieces and nephews.
A member of St. John XXIII R.C.C. of Tamaqua, Elsie worked in various Textile Mills, and for the former Atlas Powder Company of Reynolds during WWII in the Bomb Plant.
Never one to sit still she never really retired. Elsie was affectionately known as the "Lunch Lady" for she worked in the cafeteria at the Tamaqua High School from 1973 - 2014 till the age of 100 keeping the kids inline using her whistle. During her free time she volunteered at Miner's Memorial Medical Center for over fifty years, where she led the exercise classes in the Geriatric ward for over fifteen years..
An Air Raid Warden during WWII, Elsie was a die hard sports fan. She enjoyed following her great grandchildren during their youth as they played Little League baseball and participated in other endeavors, and championed their success as they became accomplished athletes at Marian Catholic High School for which she was a proud supporter. Her support for the local youth was shown by her ringing of the cow bell, thus "The Lady with the cow Bell". Elsie was a lifetime member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW having served as the President and District President. She was also a member of the Summit Hill Legion Ladies Auxiliary
Born Friday, March 13, 1914 in Lansford, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Florindo A. DiMarco, and Assunta (DiFebbo) DiMarco. Elsie was also predeceased by sons, Joseph, and Pasquale Rita; sisters, Mrs. Jeannette Natcha, Mrs. Rose Ricchardi, and Miss Lena DiMarco; brothers, John, Patsy, and Francis "Chico" DiMarco.
