Elizabeth Jane Semko

Elizabeth Jane Semko, 92 years of age of Gay Street Tamaqua, died peacefully at home while in the care of her family on Friday May 9, 2014.
Widow of Andrew F. Semko who died in 1981.
Jane is survived by her son,
William A. Semko and his wife Linda, Reading;
Sister, Georgianna (Haldeman) Barni , Lake Harmony;
Grandchildren, Cindy J. Miller and her companion Karen Deininger of Brussels, BE., Howard Miller and his wife Corinne of Tamaqua, Michael Semko and his wife Jennifer of Great Falls Va., Matthew and his wife Amanda of Lake Wood, Co.;
Eight great grandchildren;
Many nieces and nephews also survive her.
In addition to the passing of her husband, Jane was also preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Donna Lee Miller and her husband Howard F.; sister, Mary Southam; brother, William Haldeman; step sister, Pauline Stidham.
Born in Tamaqua, Jane was the daughter of the late Frederick and Elizabeth (Wenzel) Haldeman, and Lucinda (Fulton) Haldeman her step-mother who raised her from an early age.
A 1940 Tamaqua High School graduate, Jane was an active member of The First United Methodist Church of Tamaqua having taught Sunday School for many years. She had worked at the former J.J. New Berry's Department Store in Tamaqua at a time when penny candy was the norm, and as Switch Board Operator for the former Coaldale State Hospital. She had been active in Girl Scouts. Jane was an avid baker and very engaged with her family. Jane loved to follow politics and current affairs while welcoming all conversations about any subject. Jane led a very active life as the matriarch of her family. She was loved by many.

Friends may call Tuesday evening from 6 to 8:00 P.M. , also on Wed. morning from 10:00 A.M. until time of services.
Interment at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Tamaqua.
