Elizabeth "Betty" Teter Herring , 85 years old, of Phoenix, AZ, passed away peacefully in her home on Sunday, August 27, 2017. She was the wife of the late William C. Herring, deceased on July 28, 2012. Married for nearly 62 years, Sept. 9, 1950, they were each other's heart and soul.
Born in R.D.1, Tamaqua, she was the daughter of Francis F. and Bertha F. (Miller) Teter. Raised by her Aunt Pearl from the age of 3.
Betty was a graduate of Tamaqua High School Class of 1950, where she was a Majorette in the All Girls Drum and Bugle Corps. She was also a member of the Primitive Methodist Church, Tamaqua for many years.
She worked at McGraw-Hill in New Jersey and Mervyn's Dept. Store and Ferrell Gas in Phoenix. She was a devoted caregiver to many relatives and gracious hostess to all.
She is survived by her Sister, Helen Teter Kerschner, Reading, PA. Her son Donald Herring, Phoenix, AZ, who cared for her in her final days. Grandchildren Justin, Indianapolis, Cody and Maryanne, Edward Herring, husband of Lara, all of Flagstaff, AZ, Elizabeth "Buffy", wife of Tim Guthrie, Florida, Sister-in-law, Harriet Ann Miller Van Boven, Delaware. And 7 Great-Grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, son, Dennis, Nov. 15, 2008, and David, who was killed in an accident on May 12, 2017 in Phoenix, and will be interred the same day as his mother. David was his mother's caregiver after his father's death until the time of his death.
She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Francis, III, Arjay and Irvin Teter, and sisters, S. Jane Ostergaard and Margaret Welsh.
Memorial Service will be Saturday September 30 at 11 o'click AM, From the E. Franklin Griffiths Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc. of 655 East Broad Street Tamaqua, Pennsylvania 18252.
Interment Odd Fellows Cemetery, Tamaqua, Pennsylvania.
