Mr. Edward F. Assalita, age 84, of Reynolds Road Tamaqua, Pa., died Saturday, July 11, 2009, at St. Lukes Miners Memorial Medical Ctr. in Coaldale, Pa.
Edward was a member of St. Jerome R.C.C. of Tamaqua, Pa.. He belonged to the West Penn Gun Club, and the Tamaqua American Legion.
He retired from the former Atlas Poweder Company of Reynolds, having managed the Powder House. Edward, worked his entire tenure for Atlas, only leaving to serve in the Army Air Corp, as a Tail Gunner during WWII.
Born in Walker Twp, in the section formerly known as Guinea Hill, he was the son of the late Pietro and Mary (Mariello) Assalita.
He is survived by his

Miss Susan Assalita, with whom he resided
Mary Beth (Assalita) Klein wife of Tom of Tamaqua;
One Son,
Edward J. Assalita and his wife Sharon of Abbottstown;
Two Sisters,
Rose (Assalita) Bridygham, wife of Earl, Jr. of Tamaqua,
Mildred "Millie" (Assalita) Swartley of Tamaqua;
One Brother,
Blase Assalita and his wife Mildred of Tamaqua;
Six grandchildren, Jason and Steven Assalita, Stephanie and Robert Brown, Tom, Jr. and Sarah Klein;
One great-grandchild, Allison Assalita;
Preceded in death by his wife, Marie (Moyer) Assalita; brothers, John, Nello, and Carlo; sisters, Mrs. Anna Burns, and Mrs. Lucy Shalanta.
Arrangements are being handled by E. Franklin Griffiths Funeral Home, Inc., 655 East Broad Street Tamaqua, Pa.,
Mass of Chrisitna Burial will be at St. Jerome R.C.C. at 11 o'clock AM Thursday, July 16, 2009.
Interment with Military Honors, will be at St. Jerome R.C.C. Cemetery in Tamaqua, Pa.
