Mrs. Edith Jane (Picton) Evans, age 82, of Tumbling Run Road Tamaqua, died Wednesday, August 4, 2010, at Schuylkill Medical Center South Jackson Street, in Pottsville, Pa.
She was a 1945 Pottsville High School graduate and a co-founder, charter and board member of Schuylkill County Community Chorus and Schuylkill County Council for the Arts.
Edith had previously worked for Sears of Pottsville, the former Wedgewood Restaurant where she was a waitress and retired from Guer's Dairy where she worked in the office. Her early career included modeling for local department stores.
Born in Pottsville, she was the daughter of the late Clarence T. Picton and the late Margaret (Erb) Picton.
She is survived by her
Husband of 60 years, Russell R. Evans of Tamaqua;
Daughters,
Rhonda (Evans) Bower wife of Lynn and Amy L. (Evans) Ilgenfritz both of Tamaqua, and Meredith A. (Evans) Twardzik and her husband Joseph of Hershey;
Sons,
Bruce T Evans of Tamaqua, David R. Evans and his wife Jane of Pine Grove, and Owen G. Evans and his wife Yvonne of Phoenixville;
Brother,
C. Thomas Picton of Wyomissing;
twelve grandchildren
Two great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by daughter, Gwynneth A. Evans in 1961 and sister, Ruth Ann Loseth.
Arrangements were handled by E. Franklin Griffiths Funeral Home, Inc., 655 East Broad Street Tamaqua, Pa., Tamaqua, Pa.
Funeral Services where held on Friday, August 6, 2010 at 11:00AM at the E. Franklin Griffiths Funeral Home, Reverend Steven Frykholm officiating.
Interment at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Tamaqua, Pa.
