E. Maxine Jeffries

April 10, 1918 — September 24, 2012

E. Maxine (Hardesty) Jeffries died in her 94th year on September 24, 2012 at the home of her daughter in Mohnton, PA. She was born to Mary Eleanor (Madden) and Charley M. Hardesty in Morocco, IN. Maxine graduated from Wooster High School, OH in 1936 and attended Wooster Business College. She was employed at Wooster Products, Rubbermaid Corporation, and the Atlas Powder Company in Ravenna, OH.



Maxine assisted her late husband Philip J. Jeffries Sr. in operating funeral homes in Coaldale and Weatherly, PA. She taught Sunday School at the First Congregational Church in Coaldale, and the Centenary United Methodist Church and Salem U.C.C. in Weatherly. She was initiated into the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter #270 in Wooster and was Past Matron of the Mayflower Chapter #107 in Hazleton, PA. She had numerous PA Grand Chapter appointments, including District Deputy Grand Matron for PA District 21 B and Grand Representative to Connecticut. She was a member of the Past Matron’s Assoc. of Lehigh Valley and became an OES Golden Member in 1995. She travelled widely with her husband who served as Worthy Grand Patron for the State of PA in 1985. She was Mother Advisor to Assembly #134, International Order of Rainbow Girls and Grand Deputy of Rainbow District #35. She and her husband were awarded the Rainbow Grand Cross of Color in 1972. She was past president of the High Point Women’s Club of Delray Beach, FL and belonged to the Delray Beach Garden Club and Weatherly Flower Club.



She was preceded in death by her husband and brothers, James, Thomas and Robert Hardesty and a sister, Frances Anderson. She is survived by sons: Philip J. and wife, Margaret, Charley H. and wife, Candy, all of Weatherly; Walter J. and wife, Carol, of Allentown; and a daughter, Dr. Janet M. Slovak, wife of Dr. Charles F. Weyl.

Grandchildren: Everett, Jocelyn, Vaughn & Carson Slovak; John Jeffries; Lisa Winheld & Amy Lintz; Kent & Eric Jeffries

Step grandchildren: Nathan, Anna, Gideon & Emily Weyl

Great grandchildren: Olivia Winheld; Ian & Annalisa Jeffries; Kreider & Katelyn Lintz; Benjamin Jeffries; Sylas & Jackson Slovak.

Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.



Services will be held at Philip J. Jeffries Funeral Home, Weatherly, on Saturday, Sept. 29 at 11 AM. Eastern Star service to be held 6 PM, Friday, Sept. 28. Friends may call Friday from 6 to 8 PM and Saturday from 10 AM until time of Services.
