Doris Lois (Erdman) Hagenbach, died peacefully at age 94 of natural causes on December 11, 2016 in her home in Crossville, TN.
Doris was the eldest of seven children born July 31, 1922 in Weatherly PA, to Anna (Fries) and Walter Preston Erdman. She graduated from Weatherly High School and attended Palmerton Hospital School of Nursing where she earned her Registered Nurse Degree. She worked in public health in Philadelphia and Amarillo, TX during World War II and later as a Charge Nurse at a skilled nursing facility in Florida, retiring at age 72. While living in Weatherly she served as a Girl Scout leader, and throughout her life was active in women's church groups and took care of family.
In September 1942, Doris married William (Bill) Franklin Hagenbach, Jr. (deceased 1996). They raised their four children, Gary, Gail, Glen and Gayanna, first in Weatherly, and then in Brandon, FL where she and Bill moved in 1970 . In 2006 she relocated with Gayanna to South Texas to be closer to her twin grandsons. Seeing the boys every day was the joy of her life. In 2016 Doris relocated to Tennessee.
Doris was an avid reader, always interested in the wider world, and loved to travel. She kept her optimistic outlook, wry sense of humor, and great laugh. She was fiercely independent, driving until the age of 92. She was the matriarch and anchor of the family and will remain a strong force in their lives.
Doris is survived by her children:
Gary and his wife, Angela Bell Hagenbach, their sons Vincent and Aaron, Parkville, MO, Gail Hagenbach and her husband, Rick Miller, Crossville, TN; Glen and his wife, Shirley Tan Hagenbach, their sons Trevor and Tyler, McAllen, TX, Gayanna Hagenbach, Crossville, TN; sister, Joyce Saeger and her husband John, their children and grandchildren;numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by siblings June, Robert, Alan, Carol (Erdman) Heater and Lawrence.
A service celebrating Doris' life will be held on July 22, 2017 at Salem United Church of Christ, Weatherly, PA. Visitation 10-11 am in the church sanctuary. Memorial Service immediately following.
