David E. Midas

David E. Midas; son, grandson, husband, and father; age 33, of East Main Street, Weatherly, died Saturday, October 26, 2013, at Lehigh Valley Hospital Center in Salisbury Twp., Pa.

Dave is survived by his wife of seven years, Julie (Dalesandro) Midas.

After his 1998 graduation from Panther Valley High School, David enrolled at Northampton County Community College earning his Associates Degree in 2001 in Mortuary Science. While at NCCC, he served as class president. He was a 2002 graduate of the Lackawanna Police Academy, Hazleton campus, where he was voted Most Distinguished Student by his classmates. He completed his Act #120 Police accreditation and was certified as Act #2, to serve in the capacity of Sheriff.
A seven-year officer with the Carbon County Sheriff's office, he rose to the rank of Lieutenant. Dave also worked as a part-time police officer for both the Summit Hill and Lansford Boroughs.

Since the age of 17, he worked in many capacities at the Griffiths Family Funeral Homes in the Lansford, New Ringgold, Tamaqua, and Weatherly locations. Dave was a compassionate and caring individual to all.

Civically he served as a member of the Lansford American Fire Company #1 having held various line offices; active in the Carbon County Democratic Party; participated in the Weatherly Centennial Committee; a D.A.R.E. officer; and a Carbon County Advocate. Dave received numerous awards and recognition for the generous donation of his time to clubs and organizations in Carbon County.

He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes R.C.C. of Weatherly.

Dave could often be seen dancing the polka on WVIA-TV. He loved his heritage and the music.

He was the son of David J. and Patricia (Poshefko) Midas of Lansford.
Dave was a devoted father to his two sons: Gunnar D. and Hodge T. Midas.

He is also survived by his:
Sister: Kristin (Midas), wife of, Dave Sommers of Summit Hill;
Paternal grandmother: Margaret "Margie" Midas: Maternal grandfather, Edward Poshefko, both of Lansford;
Many aunts, uncles, cousins, and his in-laws.

Philip J. Jeffries Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 211 First Street, Weatherly, PA is handling arrangements.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 O’clock AM on Thursday, October 31, 2013, from Our Lady of Lourdes R.C.C., 318 Plane Street, Weatherly, PA 18255.

Friends may call in church from 9:00 AM until time of services.

Interment will be at Sky-View Memorial Park in Tamaqua, PA.
