Mr. David J Hegarty, age 89, of Pine St.,Tamaqua, Pa., died Sunday, January 17, 2010, at his home. He was the husband of Lois (Bachert) Hegarty. They were married for 61 years.
Mr. Hegarty was a WWII U.S. Navy Veteran and had been employed by Atlas Powder Company in the production dept.
He was a 1940 Tamaqua High School graduate.
He was a member of St. Jerome R.C. Church of Tamaqua, South Ward Fire Co. and the American Legion.
Born in Tamaqua, he was the son of the late Thomas Hegarty and the late Agnes (Fay) Hegarty.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his
two sons,
David J. Hegarty, Jr. of Tamaqua and Sean J.B. Hegarty and his wife Marion of Tamaqua
four grandchildren
Kellie, Kerri, Carla and Sherry
four great-grandchildren
Maximus, Zane, Alexis and Connor
several nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by brothers, John, Thomas, Richard and Laddie Hegarty; sisters, Mary, Kathryn M. and Ellen Hegarty, Florence Aughenbauch and Agnes Krausser.
Arrangements are being handled by E. Franklin Griffiths Funeral Home, Inc., 655 East Broad Street Tamaqua, Pa. where the family will receive friends on Thursday, January 21, 2010 from 6-8 P.M. and Friday, January 22, 2010 from 9:45-10:30 A.M.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, January 22, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Jerome R.C. Church 264 W. Broad St., Tamaqua, Pa., Reverend James C. Bechtel officiating.
Interment with military honors will be at St. Jerome R.C.C. Cemetery, Tamaqua, Pa.
Mass Cards and Memorials in his honor to the church and to St. Luke's Hospice 1510 Valley Center Parkway Suite 200 Bethlehem PA 18017.
