Mr. Gene David Gerhard, of Tuscon Arizona, passed away Wednesday, December 30th at a hospice center in Arizona.
Born April 27, 1950, in Hazleton, he is survived by his parents Gene Smith Gerhard and Mary Kathryn (Hauze) Gerhard of Weatherly; son Glenn and his wife Kiran of Port Huenema, CA; daughters, Jennifer Quintana and her husband Bernie of Chandler, AZ and Christina Rau and her husband Colin of Tuscon, AZ; three granddaughters, Joyce, Madisen and KayLyn; brothers, Jeffrey Gerhard and his wife Bonnie, Russell Gerhard and his wife Lori, both of Weatherly; sisters, Muriel Scalise of Weatherly, Aimee Sterenchock and her husband Dan of Hazleton and Mary Beth Fortwangler and her husband Barry of Weatherly; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Gail R. (Wheeler) Gerhard.
Gene was a 1968 graduate of Weatherly Area High School, and Jim Thorpe Vo-Technical School. Gene enlisted in the Air Force after graduation, and was stationed in the Philippine Islands, and was promoted to Sgt. while stationed in Taiwan, Formosa in the 405 Fighter Wing as machinist. After reenlisting for a second term he was sent to Viet Nam during the War, and served for 6 years total finishing his term in Arizona.
He was employed and worked a few years at Dorr Oliver, Hazleton, Pa., and later by Hughes Air Craft, Raytheon Missile Systems in Arizona, and also became an insurance agent while in Arizona. Gene later returned to PA and was employed as a machine shop Foreman at Lattimer Supply.
Arrangements are being handled by Philip J. Jeffries Funeral Home 211 First St., Weatherly, Pa., Philip J. Jeffries F.D./Supervisor where the family will receive friends on Saturday, January 23, 2010 from 9-10 A.M.
Memorial Service will be on Saturday, January 23, 2010 at 10:00 A.M. at the funeral home, Pastor Rodney Murphy and Pastor Arthur Riddle officiating.
Interment with Military Honors will be at Union Cemetery of Weatherly.
