Daniel T. Novitsky

Daniel T. Novitsky, age 90, of Weatherly, died Thursday, December 20, 2012, at Heritage Hills in Weatherly.

He was the widower of Anna (Brazzo) Novitsky, who died on December 24, 2007 having been married for 61 years.

A 1938 Hazleton High School graduate, Dan served meritoriously in the United States Army during WWII. Departing Boston in 1944 to Liverpool, UK. as a member of the 30th Infantry Division, 19th Field Artillery Battalion he fought through France and Belgium, serving in campaigns in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes, Central Europe. Dan calculated artillery targets for the 106mm Howitzers, as part of the Omaha Beach Invasion. Awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, and European-African-Middle Eastern Service Ribbon with Five Bronze Stars, he returned home August 1945 on the Queen Mary.

Dan was employed as a purchasing manager and treasurer of the Weatherly Foundry and Manufacturing Co. until his retirement.

He volunteered for his parish Our Lady of Lourdes R.C.C., the United Way, Weatherly Band Parents and several athletic groups. He enjoyed working in the garden.

Born in Hazleton, he was the son of the late Peter and Anna (Jackles) Novitsky.

He is also survived by his

Arlene (Novitsky) Swantko wife of Russell of Drums,
Alice (Novitsky) Houk wife of William of Gaithersburg, Md.;

One Son,
David Novitsky and his wife Robin of Weatherly;

One Sister,
Martha (Novitsky) Kuntz of Hazleton;

Nine grandchildren, Jennifer (Learn) Andes, Pamela (Learn) Schleicher, Vanessa (Learn) List, Amy (Swantko) Chumley, Jessica Swantko, Laura and Ryan Novitsky, Brian and Stephanie Houk;

Six great-grandchildren, Rebecca Halcisak, Eli, Joshua and Jacob Suveg, Emily and Madelyn List;

One great-great-grandchild, Austin Suveg.

Arrangements are being handled by Philip J. Jeffries Funeral Home, 211 First street Weatherly, Pa., Philip J. Jeffries F.D.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Lourdes R.C.C. 318 Plane Street Weatherly, at 10 o'clock AM Saturday, January 5, 2013, Rev. Floyd Caesar to officiate.

Interment with Military Honors St. Nicholas R.C.C. Cemetery, Weatherly.
