Daniel A. Nelson, Sr., father, grandfather, 84 years of age of Allentown, Pennsylvania passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 23, 2017, at Lehigh Valley Hospice 17th & Chew Streets in Allentown.
Survived by; daughter, BethAnn Curry wife of Edward "Gabby" of Sugarloaf Key, FL; sons, Daniel A. Nelson and his wife Maryann of Allentown, Brian A. Nelson and his wife Aimee of Camden , SC,, Jeffrey S. Kehler and hs wife Michelle of Alpharetta, GA, Richard J. Kehler and his wife Diane of Wake Forest , NC,; 9 grandchildren; and many friends.
A 1950 Tamaqua High School graduate, Dan was a star athlete and quarterback of the varsity football team. He served his country honorably in the United States Navy during the Korean War, and retired from Mack Trucks of Allentown and Macungie after thirty-four years, having served as a Union Official for U.A.W. # 677. Dan was a member of the Zion's stone Church of West Penn Township.
An avid outdoorsman, his true calling was that of providing opportunities for the local youth. He was a founding member of the South Parkland Youth Association, and he coached football for twenty years.
Dan fostered his own love for sports having played baseball which led him to be scouted professionally. Not one to hang up his cleats, he then played fast pitch softball with the Allentown Patriots.
Born Wednesday, August 31, 1932 in Reynolds, Pennsylvania the son of the late Vernon, and Revaine (Kistler) Nelson. He was also predeceased by his first wife Patricia R. (Lawall) Nelson in 1993; second wife Aida H. Kehler-Nelson in 2011.

A Funeral service will be held at 10 o'clock AM on Tuesday May 30, 2017 from Zion's Stone Church of West Penn Township 45 Cemetery Road, New Ringgold, Pennsylvania 17960, Rev. Kenneth T. Melber, Jr. to officiate. Friends will be received on the morning of at the church from 9:00 A.M. until time of services.
Interment with Military Honors, will be in Zion 's Stone Church Cemetery, New Ringgold, Pennsylvania.
