Clement P. Litvinas, age 93, passed away on March 29, 2013. Born in Tamaqua, PA, he was the fourth of seven children of Joseph and Anna Litvinas. Following graduation from high school, Clem joined the U.S. Army. Upon enlistment, he was assigned to Walter Reed Army Hospital. Subsequently, he was an original member of the 121st Evacuation Hospital and served in England, France and Germany as a motor sergeant during World War II.
After the war, Clem married Anna Krunglevich of Tamaqua, and he began a long and successful international career. Hired by Texaco, Clem constructed oil pipelines from the interior of Venezuela to shipping terminals. He transferred to Saudi Arabia where he worked for the Arabian American Oil Company. He then entered government service as a heavy equipment specialist and worked on development projects in Suriname, Honduras, Korea, Dominica, Trinidad, Vietnam and Laos. He retired from the Federal Highway Administration.
Clem Litvinas is survived by two sons, Clement Jr. and Anthony, and their spouses, Donna and Carol. Preceding him in death were his wife and son, Joseph. He is fondly remembered by six grandchildren -- Benjamin, Nichole, Anthony Jr. and his wife Eryn, Matthew and his wife Natalie, Jeremy and Megan and her husband Blake VanDeever. He is also survived by his younger brother, Albert.
On Wednesday, April 3, 2013, visitation will be from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. at E. Franklin Griffiths Funeral Home, Inc., Tamaqua followed by a funeral mass at 11:00 at St. Peter’s and Paul’s Catholic Church, Tamaqua. Interment will be at St. Peter’s and Paul’s Cemetery, Owl Creek Road, Tamaqua. The family requests that donations be made in his memory to the USO or your favorite charity.
