Charles John Oakes, age 77, of Cresson, Pa., died Monday, September 3, 2012, at Altoona Regional Medical Center in Altoona, Cambria County.
Survived by his wife of 40 years, Alverta Jean (Grassmyer) Oakes.
A member of the Church of Latter Day Saints, Charles worked for West Scott Electric as a truck driver, and for the City of Philadelphia in Summer Maintenance.
He was a Korean War veteran.
Born in Coaldale, the son of the late Charles and the late Lucy (Sweeney) Oakes.
He is also survived by his;

Preceded in death by sisters, Gertrude, Bernadette, and Eleanore Oakes; brothers, Vincent Sweeney, Glyn, and Donald Oakes.
Arrangements are being handled by E. Franklin Griffiths Funeral Home, Inc., 655 East Broad Street Tamaqua, Pa.
Friends will be received from 9:30 A.M. until time of services, at the funeral home on Sat Sept 8, 2012.
A talk will be conducted at 11 o'clock A.M., Sat. September 8, 2012, from the funeral home.
Interment will be at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery of Tamaqua.
