Alice Catherine Parfitt was born to a Welsh-Methodist mining family in Coaldale, where she graduated from high school. After working as a secretary in a coal-company office, she married Ralph Henry Peters, a colliery operator, in 1949. They lived in Tumbling Run then Schuylkill Haven. Mr. and Mrs. Peters had three children. Her husband pre-deceased her.
Through the best of times and many hard times that followed, “Maisie” devoted herself to her children and remained avidly loyal to her friends. Extraordinarily generous, she was a warm-hearted hostess to all who entered her home. People mattered to her; possessions did not. She encouraged a love of books and music within her family and drew great satisfaction from every success of her children, great or small.
She is survived by her two sons and a daughter, Ralph Henry Peters, Jr., of Warrenton, Virginia; Bruce Robert Peters of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania; and Catherine Ann (Peters) Magnant of Toano, Virginia and Seattle, Washington. She is also survived by a grandchild, Maggie Wimmer-Magnant, of Richmond, Virginia.
We, her children, will remember her drinking scalding coffee at her kitchen table while listening gleefully to a well-told tale-or telling one herself.
The funeral will be held at the E. Franklin Griffith Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc. 655 East Broad Street Tamaqua Pa. 18252 and will be restricted to family members. Anyone wishing to honor “Maisie” may make a donation to the Tamaqua Public Library South Railroad Street Tamaqua, Pa. 18252.
