Carmela R. Sassaman

Carmela R. Sassaman, 90 years of age, of West Abbott Street Lansford, Pennsylvania passed away on Wednesday, February 25, 2015, at home.

Survived by her husband of sixty-nine years, George B. Sassaman.

Carmela was a 1942 graduate of Lansford High School. She was a Switch Board Operator for the former Carbon Telephone Company, and then went to work for Bright's Department Store in Lansford for many years.

Carmela enjoyed reading, and taking care of her home. She was a member of the former English Congregational Church of Lansford.

Born Saturday, August 23, 1924 in Philadelphia, the daughter of the late Louis and Mary (Seravo) Dignazio.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by;

Daughter, Renee L. Mantz of Kutztown;

Brother,
J. Anthony "Tony" Dignazio of Ellicott City, MD;

Sister,
Elizabeth Harvan of Lansford;

Grandchildren, Megan L. Pielmeier and her husband David, and Lauren R. Mantz and her fiancé Tim DeTurk;

Great grandchildren, Claire, and Abigail;

Many nieces and nephews survive her as well her brother-in-law George W. "Bucky" Brimmer.

Preceded in death by her sisters, Mrs. Mary Reilly, and Mrs. Louise Kunkle; brother, Louis Dignazio; son-in-law, Gary A. Mantz.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the E. Franklin Griffiths Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc. 655 East Broad Street Tamaqua, Pennsylvania 18252.

Funeral services will be held on Monday March 2, 2015 at 11 o'clock A.M. from the Funeral Home, Rev. Dr. Wayne Benack to officiate.

A Gathering of Friends shall take place at the funeral home on Sunday afternoon, March 1, 2015 from 1 to 3:00 P.M., and a calling hour will precede the funeral on Monday March 2, 2015 from 10:00 A.M. until time of services.

Interment will be in Grand Army Cemetery, Summit Hill, Pennsylvania.
