Carlson E. Hartz

Carlson E. Hartz, 87, of Mountain Stone Drive, Elizabethtown, formerly of Tamaqua, passed away Sunday, May 29, 2011, at Masonic Village in Elizabethtown surrounded by his family. He entered Heaven to join his wife Jean L. (Hartranft) Hartz, who died September 16, 1991.

Carlson attended Tamaqua Area High School and graduated from Williamson Trade School in Media, PA.

After graduation he enlisted in the Army Air Corp, serving as a Navigator on a B-24 Bomber in Europe during WWII.

Returning home to Tamaqua, he worked for the former Atlas Powder Company for 41 years as a Master Carpenter.

Carlson was a member of Christ Lutheran Church of Elizabethtown, and formerly worshipped at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church of Tamaqua. He was also a member of the American Hose Fire Company and the American Legion, Tamaqua, PA.

Carlson enjoyed woodworking, coin collecting, community service and traveling with his family.

Born in Cressona, he was the son of the late Lloyd and Laura (Schappell) Hartz.

He is survived by his son, Brian Hartz and his wife Laurie of Elizabethtown, PA and two daughters, Lori (Hartz) McBride, wife of John of Long Beach, CA and Linda (Hartz) Trigueiro, wife of Rick of Santa Barbara, CA along with five grandchildren; Travis, Madison, Griffin, MacKenzie, and Sydni; also one brother, Robert Hartz and his wife Millie of Shippensburg, PA.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Mrs. Betty Hoag and step-mother, Mrs. Virgie Troxell.

Arrangements are being handled by E. Franklin Griffiths Funeral Home, Inc., 655 East Broad Street Tamaqua, PA where the family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Tuesday, May 31, 2011.

Funeral services will be at E. Franklin Griffiths Funeral Home, Inc. at 8:00 PM Tuesday, May 31, 2011, Rev. Jeffrey P. Kistler to officiate.

Interment with Military Honors will be held at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Tamaqua, Wednesday June 1, 2011 at 10:30 AM.
