Blase C. Assalita

Mr. Blase C. Assalita, age 88, of Reynolds Road Tamaqua, Pa., died Wednesday, August 4, 2010, at Schuylkill Medical Center S. Jackson St. in Pottsville, Pa.

A 1940 Tamaqua High School graduate, Blase served in the U.S. Navy during WWII in the Pacific, on the USS Sierra, a sea deployed maintenance and seaside assistive ship for destroyers.

He retired from the former Atlas Powder Co., as a Machinist after working 44 1/2 years, in 1984.

Blase, was A member of Zion Stone Church of New Ringgold, and the Tamaqua American Legion, life member.

Born in Reynolds, he was the son of the late Pietro and Mary (Mariello) Assalita.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Mrs. Mildred E. (Koenig) Assalita;

Two Sons,
Ronald C. Assalita and his wife Carol of Abingdon, Md.,
Dr. Larry J. Assalita and his wife Dr. Pamela of State College, Pa.;

Two Sisters,
Rose (Assalita) Bridygham wife of Earl,
Mildred "Millie" (Assalita) Swartley, both of Tamaqua;

Five grandchildren,Kristy, Tracey, Shala, Cara, and Sydney;
Four great-grandchildren, Brandon, Erica, Johnnie, and Julian;
One great-great-grandchild, Andrea;

Preceded in death by brothers, Edward F., John, Nello, and Carlo Assalita; sisters, Anna Burns, and Lucy Shalanta.

Arrangements are being handled by Robert S. Nester Funeral Home, Inc. 2066 West Penn Pike, Rte.#309 Snyders Village, New Ringgold, Pa. 17960, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday, August 6, 2010 and from Zion Stone Church of West Penn Twp., 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM Saturday, August 7, 2010.

Funeral service will be at Zion Stone Church of West Penn Twp. Cemetery Road New Ringgold, Pa. at 11 o'clock AM Saturday, August 7, 2010, Rev. Michael Frost officiating.

Interment with Military Honors, will be at Zion Stone Church Cemetery of West Penn Twp., New Ringgold, Pa.

Memorials in his honor to the Tamaqua Salvation Army 105 West Broad Street Tamaqua, Pa. 18252.
