Bernard "Leo" Dougherty, 98 years of age of Walnut Street Tuscarora, Pennsylvania passed into eternal life Wednesday, August 10, 2016, at Schuylkill Medical Center East, Pottsville, Pennsylvania.
Widower of Kathryn (McAllister) Dougherty, he is survived by; daughters, Marie G. Beltz of Tamaqua, Rose Mary Dougherty of Tuscarora, Kathleen Virag wife of Anthony of Edison, NJ., Bernadette Oliver of Palmyra; sons, Leo B. Dougherty and his wife Wanda of Alexandria, VA,, Hugh A. Dougherty and his wife Lois of LaVelle, PA,, John J. Dougherty of Tuscarora, Patrick D. Dougherty and his wife Rose of Dupont,PA and Joseph M. Dougherty of Fogelsville; 15 grand children; 3 great grandchildren.
A graduate of Blythe Township, Bernard served honorably in the United States Army during WWII. He owned and operated Dougherty's Gas Station in Tuscarora for many years. Leo, retired from the Department of Forestry as a Fire Watcher.
A longtime devoted member of the former St. Bertha's R.C.C. of Tuscarora, Bernard now belongs to St. John XXIII R.C.C. Parrish of S.S. Peter & Paul of Tamaqua. Leo was a fourth Degree Knights of Columbus member Henry Baker Lodge #2711 of Coaldale. He was a talented carpenter.
Born Saturday, April 27, 1918 in Tuscarora, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Hugh, and Mary (Burns) Dougherty, he was also predeceased by sisters, Miss Mary Dougherty, Mrs. Rose Harris, Mrs. Helen Daley; brothers, Joseph, Hugh, Cornellius, John, and Gerald Dougherty; son-in-law, Mark Beltz.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 o'clock AM on Saturday August 13, 2016 from SS. Peter & Paul R.C.C. Parish of St. John XXIII located at 301 Pine Street Tamaqua, Pennsylvania 18252.
Friends shall be received on Friday evening August 12, 2016 at the funeral home from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.
Interment with Military Honors will be in St. Bertha's R.C.C. Cemetery, Tuscarora, Pennsylvania.
