Andrew Baymor, of Conyngham, passed peacefully at 91 on December 16, 2020, in the loving care of his family at home. Due to COVID restrictions, his Memorial Service will finally be held for everyone who knew Andy - his family, neighbors and community.
Andy was a loving husband to Pauline, father to Michele and Michael, father-in-law to Connie and grandfather to Steven and Laura. He always seemed young, tending to his gardening, feeding the birds, and walking to the post office daily for the Wall Street Journal. Andy never talked to a child as a child – he talked to them as little people – curious to learn their thoughts and opinions, while he was happy to educate. He took great interest in his grandchildren’s sporting and musical events.
Andy earned a BS in Chemical Engineering from Penn State University and served in the US Army during the Korean War. He retired from Cabot Corporation and consulted in China. He decided he wanted a certain type of house – so as an engineer – he drew it and had it built. Andy went to cooking school and prepared everything from chicken soup and pierogies to five course meals and Xmas nut rolls.
On Sundays, he would pick up the NYT, the Philadelphia Inquirer and the Harrisburg Patriot News after church and fill the rest of the morning reading them. He might read his National Geographic, Smithsonian magazine in the afternoon. As a volunteer, he guided tours of the Eckley Miners’ Village Museum. Andy was a brilliant teacher – basically on any subject that involved arts or the sciences. Andy watched and played Jeopardy and if he was ever on the actual show, he surely would have won.
Andy encouraged travel, sports and new experiences. Andy and Pauline traveled extensively throughout the US from Alaska to Hawaii to Maine to Florida and through much of Eastern and Western Europe, including the Ukraine, during their 65 years together. Andy was an avid golfer – always playing better when there was a prize – and many times winning it. He even decided to try skiing when he turned 40, even though he had never really met anyone who skied – he just thought it would be fun to go that fast.
Being the second youngest of nine children, Andy’s passing was proceeded by his siblings - sisters, Sophie, Mary, Ann, Helen; brothers, Michael, John, and Patrick. Surviving are his beloved wife, Pauline, daughter, Michele Baymor of Philadelphia and her fiancé Ted Villanueva; son, Michael Baymor and his wife Connie and their children Steven and Laura Baymor of Harleysville; and youngest sister, Isabelle West of Barnesville. Many nieces and nephews across the country, and the globe, also survive Andy.
All are welcome to attend a Celebration of Andrew’s Life August 6th 12:00 at noon at his church, the Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, 467 Main St, Conyngham, PA 18219. Online condolences may be sent to the family, along with great stories, to
