Amandus C. "Junior" Steigerwalt, husband, father, grandfather, of Ben Salem Road, Andreas, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully at home Wednesday, October 27, 2021, in the tender care of his family and beloved wife of 70 years, Pauline Lizzie (Oswald) Steigerwalt, having celebrated their anniversary on July 7, 2021, at 92 years of age.
Born Saturday, April 20, 1929, in Lehighton, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Amandus and Bertha (Knepper) Steigerwalt. Junior was also predeceased by his sister, Bernice Wehr.
Surviving in addition to Pauline are: daughters, Judy L. Mantz, wife of David, and Janet L. Raub; son, Brian L. Steigerwalt and his wife Ann Marie, all of Andreas, son Barry C. Steigerwalt and his wife Cora of Pittsburgh; sister, Janice Steigerwalt, of Andreas; grandchildren, Earlene, Gregory, Matthew, Elisabeth, Nicholas, Alex, and Emily; and great grandchildren, Mackenzie, Madeline, Autumn, and Oliver all who affectionately called him "Pappy."
A 1947 Lehighton High School graduate, Junior served honorably in the United States Navy from 1955 -1957 where he worked as a damage controlman. Junior was co-owner of M&S Hardware of Tamaqua for over 30 years, retiring in 1993.
Junior was a member of Zion Stone Church of West Penn Township, and Tamaqua Masonic Lodge #238 F&AM. Junior and Pauline enjoyed many activities, traveling, camping, motorcycle riding and reading WWII novels. A bit of a daredevil, Junior enjoyed flying his ultralight hang glider in the surrounding countryside in East Penn Twp. He enjoyed the friendship of many people, and would reminisce about all of their adventures. Junior and Pauline were proud that their shared love for travel has transcended to their children and grandchildren. Junior's most meaningful trip was his pilgrimage to the Holy Lands which affirmed his personal religious convictions.
Junior and Pauline have both reflected on how blessed they've been; however, among their greatest blessings are their children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and grand-dogs whom they've been able to visit and spend much time.
