Amanda Susan Thierer, 27, of Emmaus, died peacefully surrounded by her loved ones Tuesday June 5, 2007 in the Inpatient Hospice Unit of Lehigh Valley Hospital after a courageous battle with Synovial Sarcoma. She was born in Allentown and grew up in West Penn Township, Schuylkill County. She graduated from Marian Catholic High School and attended Kutztown University as a biology major and was one semester away from receiving her bachelor’s degree in Biology. She most recently worked at Applebee’s Restaurant in Trexlertown as a server and a bartender for several years while she attended college. Prior to that she worked for E-Z Market in West Penn Township as a cashier. She was well known and well loved throughout her hometown for her friendly smile and her beautiful personality.
Survivors: She was the beloved, beautiful daughter of Dale and Sara (Piper) Thierer of Emmaus, loving mother to Alana Rohrbach at home, Fiancé Kevin Weaver of Orefield, Michael Rohrbach of Boyertown, father of Alana who remained one of her good friends and supporters, Brother Adam Thierer and his companion Jen Lockard of Tamaqua, sisters Laura Thierer of Emmaus, and Cathi Kratzer and her husband Richard of Mertztown, nieces Ella and Melissa & nephews Shawn and Anthony. Aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Orville and Elsie Thierer and maternal grandparents William Piper and Grace Piper Shannon and Charles Shannon.
She danced at Dance with Kim Academy in Lehighton for many years starting as a small child. The grace, determination and poise she developed from dancing carried through every endeavor in her life. She dealt with this last challenge with incredible strength and bravery never complaining. She submitted herself to painful debilitating procedures always with the hope she would live to see her little girl grow up. She loved people and always had a bright smile and cheerful attitude. She was patient and a loving mother. Her daughter was her greatest joy and she enjoyed her family, friends and pets. She was a member of the National Organization for Women and firmly believed that women should have control over their own lives and even more important that every child born should be a wanted child. Amanda’s gentle heart made it impossible for her not to constantly save stray animals, which accounts for an animal population in the double digits in her household as she was growing up. Many of her friends can tell stories about her stopping traffic on a busy street to rescue a wounded animal or cry over one that died and move it gently to the side of the road.
