Alphonse "Rusty" R. Stefanek

Alphonse "Rusty" R Stefanek, age 81, of Lombard St., Tamaqua, died Thursday, December 26, 2013, at St Lukes Hospital, Bethlehem, Pa.
He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Anne E. (Sullivan) Stefanek in 1997.
Rusty was a Korean War Airforce Veteran.
He was a local standout baseball catcher having played in the minor leagues for Baltimore and Boston. Rusty was also a major league baseball scout for the Pittsburgh Pirates and Florida Marlins.
He had worked as a Foreman for PennDot.
He was a member of St. Jerome R.C.C. of Tamaqua, South Ward Fire Co., and the St. Clair Old Timer's Club.
Born in Middleport, he was the son of the late Rudolph Stefanek and the late Frances (Wojciechowsky) Stefanek.
He is survived by his
One Daughter,
Lillian "Dolly" E Stefanek of West Lawn;
Three Sons,
Rudolph "Rudy" F Stefanek, Charles "Chas" J Stefanek and
Michael "Mick" F Stefanek all of Tamaqua;
One Sister,
Lillian "Dolly" Bolinsky and her husband Tony of Brockton;
One Brother,
Charles Stefanek and his wife Louise of Mary-D.
Preceded in death by his brothers, Michael and Rudolph; sister, Eleanor Tarconish.
Arrangements are being handled by E. Franklin Griffiths Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 655 East Broad Street Tamaqua, Pa., where the family will receive friends on Monday, December 30, 2013 from 6-8 PM and on Tuesday, December 31, 2013 from 8:30-9:30 AM.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at 10 o'clock AM at St. Jerome R.C.C., 266 W. Broad St., Tamaqua, PA 18252.
Interment with Military Honors will be at St. Jerome R.C.C.C., Tamaqua.
Mass Cards and Memorials in his honor may be sent to the church.
