It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Allen L. "Butch" Wertman, Jr. of Brockton but it is with full hearts that we celebrate his incredible life.
Butch passed away on May 24, 2022 at Lehigh Valley Hospice after a courageous 2 & 1/2 year battle with pancreatic cancer. Butch's strength, positivity, and deep love for his wife of 43 years, Deborah A. (Inama) Wertman gave him the courage to live each day to its fullest even in the toughest of moments. He was an inspiration to those who knew him and a rock to those close to him.
Born February 17, 1958 in Pottsville, Pennsylvania. the son of the late Allen L. Wertman, Sr., and Elizabeth (Mehalshick) Wertman.
Butch and Deb met when they were 15 years of old and were inseparable ever since. Their relationship flourished over 50 years and together they raised two phenomenal and devoted sons: Ryan A. Wertman (and his partner Lauren Hutton of Philadelphia) and Erik F. Wertman (and his wife Lindsay of Mechanicsburg) who gave Allen his adored grandson, Kendrick Allen. Butch is also survived by his brother Rick Wertman of Raleigh, N.C. and his sisters Lynn Zelonis (wife of Joseph) of Brockton and Susie Matlock (wife of Robert) of New Philadelphia, along with many nieces, nephews, co-workers and friends.
Known for his tireless work ethic and selfless nature, Butch retired from Carpenter Technology where he served as an Electrical Technician for 32 years. An avid athlete and traveler, Butch enjoyed hiking with his family, running, biking and never turned down a good adventure. His indomitable spirit was never more fully on display than in his final months as he faced an unbeatable illness and never lost the smile on his face or his kindness to those around him.
