Mr. Alfonso "Al" N. Nicro, age 83, of Beaver Meadows, Pa. died Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at his home.
A WWII U.S. Army Veteran, he was assigned to the Acorn Division. Alfonso, fought in Arennes Central Europe, Rhineland, and in the Battle of the Buldge, earning a Bronze Star, and other meritorious medals for service.
Alfonso was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Byzantine Catholic Church of Beaver Meadows and enjoyed visiting casinos, and traveling the world.
In the early 1950's, he began his long career with Kinney Shoes in Hazleton, Pa., became Store Manager in Groton, CT and was then made Auditor of the PA-NJ region. He retired in 1991 after 43 years of service.
Born in Greensburg, Pa., he was the son of the late Edward and Flora (Colianni) Nicro.
He is survived by his
Companion and Friend, Dottie Peace of Reading, Pa.;
Daughter, Mary Anne Hadzick of Weatherly, Pa.;
three Grandchildren, Nicholas and Matthew Hadzick and Victoria, wife of Keith Maguschak;
two Great-Grandchildren, Anthony and Timothy
Nieces, one Nephew and Cousins.
Preceded in death by his wife in 1990, Mary Ellen (Kotsur) Nicro; brother, Michael Nicro.
Arrangements are being handled by Philip J. Jeffries Funeral Home 211 First St., Weatherly, Pa., Philip J. Jeffries F.D./Supervisor.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, April 24, 2009 with Parastas Service at 7 p.m. and from 8:45 to 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 25, 2009 at Philip J. Jeffries Funeral Home, Weatherly, Pa.
Divine Liturgy with Office of Christian Burial at SS. Peter & Paul Byzantine Catholic Church 119 Berwick St., Beaver Meadows, Pa. at 10:00 a.m. Reverend James Demko celebrant.
Interment with military graveside service will be at SS. Peter & Paul Byzantine Catholic Cemetery, Beaver Meadows.
